Evermore by Alyson Nöel

About the book:
Evermore is the first book in the Immortals series written by Alyson Nöel.
There are so far 5 books in the series. Which I probably will read all of them, since I got the 4 first books. The other books are called: Blue Moon, Shadowland, Dark Flame and Night Star.

ISBN13: 9780312532758
356 pages

Read: January 2011
Language: English

From Goodreads:
Since a horrible accident claimed the lives of her family, sixteen-year-old Ever can see auras, hear people’s thoughts, and know a person’s life story by touch. Going out of her way to shield herself from human contact to suppress her abilities has branded her as a freak at her new high school—but everything changes when she meets Damen Auguste…

Ever sees Damen and feels an instant recognition. He is gorgeous, exotic and wealthy, and he holds many secrets. Damen is able to make things appear and disappear, he always seems to know what she’s thinking—and he’s the only one who can silence the noise and the random energy in her head. She doesn’t know who he really is—or what he is. Damen equal parts light and darkness, and he belongs to an enchanted new world where no one ever dies.

The Story:
It´s about this teenage girl called Ever, who lives with her aunt. After both her parents, her sister and her dog died in a car accident. Where she was the only surviver.

But after the accident thing started to change. Before she was a popular cheerleader girl at her school. But know she is hiding away under her big hooded sweater.
Ever has got the ability to read other peoples aura, which make her capable to understand what people are thinking, by just looking at them. So mostly she just hide away and don´t look at people. Until one day when a new guy arrives at her school.
The weird thing is does not have an aura. So what is he or are there something wrong with Ever. Or is this boy actually dead.?
Since the only person Ever have meet who does not have an aura, is the ghost of her little sister. So what is going on?? And why do Ever even see the ghost of her sister.

My Opinion:
I had really big expectations for this book. So it didn´t really measure up.
I think it was to boring in the beginning. Not much happened. So I had to force myself to continue reading. I think there were one time in the book were I was like.. Wow whats happening I need to continue reading. And it only lasted for about 20-30 pages. And thats just not good enough for me.. I really wanted to like this book, since I have heard only amazing words about it.

The story is just to ordinary and to long, without anything special happening. Sorry.

My Conclusion:
I have only given this book a 2 out of 6 stars. I am really sorry. As I said I really wanted to love this book. But it just didn´t measure with my expectations.

But I must admit. I think maybe this book would be really good for young teenage girls in the age of 12-15, who wants to explore the new world of Fantasy. I think it might be a good debut to the fantasy world.

  1. Thanks for your honnest review !! I've read this one like two years ago but it didn't work for me either ..=(

  2. Awwwh too bad you didn't like it much. I'm doubting if I should buy it or not now. Thank you for the review!

  3. I reallly didnt like this book either. I felt the author had weak characters. I couldn't stand Ever she was also drinking her self sick. And Damen didn't seem very attractive to me. Im glad I found someone that found this book to be not as great. I felt so annoyed with the ending because it was rushed and barely made sense. I really was put off to reading because I was scared this was how all books were written. Luckily I kept reading and I was proven that there are a lot better books than this.

    thanks for your review!

Now I would recommend you return the rest of the books of the series lol dont waste your time reading! A great series that I always recommend is Vampire Academy. I dont think you have read it but you should. Make that your next on your TBR list trust me you will love it! Strong Heroine and Swoon Worthy Male lead lots of action and an amazing writer!

  4. Elodie: To bad you didn´t like it either. But also good to know I am not the only one xD Starting to think there was something wrong with me :P haha

Selfcentered: Your welcome. The hard thing is that maybe you will like the book. But its´also enoying to buy it if it doesn´t fit one self.

Melissa: Yeah I know.. Weird about the drinking. Not very good signals to send out :P
And thanks.. I have the first book of VA. Just haven´t got to it yet. Heard so much great about that one to :P Hope it fits better then this one turned out :P

  5. Thanks for your honest review:) I couldn't connect to Evermore and I feel better when I know there are other readers that felt the same way about a story one is supposed to really really like, but cannot get into. I think I'm going to read the next instalments, when my TBR pile is reduced to 0 books.... wonder when that happens:D

    I noticed I wasn't a follower, changed that:)
Thanks a lot for your comment on my Delirium review, I am happy about each single comment your leave. And I hope you get to read DELIRIUM soon (now:D) it's soo good!

And yeah.. Normally (or as last month) I would just run on over and buy the book at play. Just one tiny problem. I promised myself not to by books online the whole month :O So I have to hang in and wait :(

  7. Ha that will be a looong wait!I need to reduce my online ordering, too, know the problem named money:D
