Review: Wherever you Go by Heather Davis

Wherever You Go by Heather Davis

The Book:
This book is not part of a series, which I really loved about it.
And it carries a lot of real life issues, who young adults can submit themselves to.
The Author Heather Davis has also written other Paranormal stories, which you can check out on her Goodreads page, which I have linked to, down bellow :)

320 pages
ISBN13 9780547501512

A huge thank you to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for letting me get a copy of this ebook, through Netgalley :)

Read: June 2011
Language: English

Summary: (From Goodreads)
Seventeen-year-old Holly Mullen has felt lost and lonely ever since her boyfriend, Rob, died in a tragic accident. The fact that she has to spend most of her free time caring for her little sister and Alzheimer’s-stricken grandfather doesn’t help. But Holly has no idea that as she goes about her days, Rob’s ghost is watching over her. He isn’t happy when he sees his best friend, Jason, reach out to help Holly with her grandfather—but as a ghost, he can do nothing to stop it. Is his best friend really falling for his girlfriend?
As Holly wonders whether to open her heart to Jason, the past comes back to haunt her. Her grandfather claims to be communicating with the ghost of Rob. Could the
messages he has for Holly be real? And if so, how can the loved ones Rob left behind help his tortured soul make it to the other side?
Told from the perspectives of Holly, Jason, and Rob,Wherever You Gois is a poignant story about making peace with the past, opening your heart to love, and finding the courage to move forward into the light.

The Story:
It´s about a young girl named Holly, who recently lost her boyfriend in a car accident.
While trying to get on with her life, she has to take care of her family.
Her family is poor and her grandfather has to move in with them, because he is getting sicker and sicker, with Alzheimer. Her mother is working day in and day out, for making a living. While Holly has to stay at home, taking care of her little sister and grandfather.

And the same time she has to handle normal teenage things as partying, boys, friends and school.

KoblingMy Opinion:
I liked this book, it was really well written and took hand of many issues, who some young kids unfortunately has to experience. Taking care of sibling, grandparents. Family members who are sick, Missing someone you love, Getting on with your life, after having a hard time. Trusting people again, Mourning, School, Friendship etc.
So many important issues in one small book. Which I really liked about it.
Therefor I gave it 6 out of 6 stars

The book holds many good advices and can help many people, so they can understand, and not feel alone.

Review: Gone by Michael Grant

Gone by Michael Grant

The Book:
This is the first book of the dystopian series with the same name, Gone. The series is written by Michael Grant. This book was published back in 2008.
In all there are 6 books in the series, 4 of them published so far. They are called:
Hunger (2009), Lies (2010), Plague (2011), Fear (2012) and Light (2013).

ISBN13: 9780061448768
558 pages

Read: July 2011
Language: Norwegian

Summary: (from Goodreads)
In the blink of an eye. Everyone disappears. GONE.

Except for the young. Teens. Middle schoolers. Toddlers. But not one single adult. No teachers, no cops, no doctors, no parents. Just as suddenly, there are no phones, no internet, no television. No way to get help. And no way to figure out what's happened.

Hunger threatens. Bullies rule. A sinister creature lurks. Animals are mutating. And the teens themselves are changing, developing new talents—unimaginable, dangerous, deadly powers—that grow stronger by the day.

It's a terrifying new world. Sides are being chosen, a fight is shaping up. Townies against rich kids. Bullies against the weak. Powerful against powerless. And time is running out: On your birthday, you disappear just like everyone else...

The Story:
This story takes place in a little town where one day all adults vanish. And a huge wall or couple closes everything. Only kids in the age under 15 is left and they have no place to go. They are trapped. The bullies try to take over control and it almost set in to become a war between kids.
We follow more of the kids and see it from their point of view. When they try to survive.
But it´s not a war between normal kids, the world changes.
Some of the kids evolves superpowers and not only the kids changes. The animal changes and the town gets weird and dangerous.
Will the good or the evil win? And how can a bunch of kids survive?

Not just survive, how can the escape? And how did this happen in first place.. Will they find a solution? And will they ever get their families back or will they also vanish, when they turn 15?

My Opinion:
I absolutely loved this book :) A great form for Dystopia. It got me thinking of the series I once saw when I was a kid, the series called The Tribe. Where they live in a world where all the adults vanished. So for me this book was a mix between The Tribe and X-men. Which is series/movies I loved. And I loved this book. I was hooked from the first to the last pages.
Normally I use about 1 month reading a long book, but this book I finished in about 3 days only. KoblingAnd I hurried out to by the next book.
Therefor I gave this book 6 out of 6 stars
Because I loved everything about it, and now it´s one of my favorite. Hoping the rest of the series is going to be just as good :)

Read a Thon - Conclusion

Once Upon a Read-a-Thon

Well.. I am just not lucky when I enter things like this. I end up making plans and work.
So I didn´t get that much reading done. But I had a good time anyway :)

All in all I read:

Listened to a little over 60% of the Perfect Chemistry audiobook.
Story written by Simone Elkeles.

Read about 265 pages of Rogue, the second book in the Shifters series.
The serie written by Rachel Vincent.

My plan was actually to go to bed early today. But Rogue is just so good, I can´t put it away. So I will probably continue to read a little more. Before going to bed. Maybe everything, If I can´t put it down xD haha Missing a little more then 170 pages :) Wish me good luck :P

What did you get to read? Did you manage to fit your goals?
Or did you do all kind of other stuff, like me :P haha

Review: Oh, my Gods by Tera Lynn Childs

Oh, my Gods by Tera Lynn Childs

The Book:
This is the first book in a series of only two books, called by the same name Oh, my Gods, written by Tera Lynn Childs. She is also know for the popular mermaid book Forgive my fins.
Second and last book in this series is called Goddess Boot Camp.
First book was released in 2008, and second book in 2009.
Both books are based on the Greek mythology. Written in a chick litt. related way :)

ISBN13: 9780525479420
224 pages

Read: June 2011
Language: English

Summary: (From Goodreads)
A modern girl´s comedic odyssey in a school filled with the descendants of Greek gods.

When Phoebe´s mom returns from Greece with a new husband and moves them to an island in the Aegean, Phoebe´s plans for her senior year and track season are ancient history. Now she must attend the uberexclusive academy, where admission depends on pedigree, namely, ancestry from Zeus, Hera, and other Greek gods. That´s right, they´re real, not myth, and their teen descendants are like the classical heroes´supersmart and superbeautiful with a few superpowers. And now they´re on her track team! Armed only with her Nikes and the will to win, Phoebe races to find her place among the gods.

The Story:
It´s about a young teenage girl called Phoebe who always dreamed about going to the same University as her two best friends. And joining the running competitions.
She love running and enjoy every minuet of it. She is on her way to win a scholar ship, when her mom bursts out with a secret.
She just came home from Greece, and while she was gone she got engaged. They are now moving.
This plan does not suit Phoebe well, since all her plans and dreams are washed away. Instead she is stuck on an Island in Greece, with her new so called family.
Turns out her new Stepfather is the principal at the school and her new stepsister, is an evil stepsister. And just when she thinks everything is going to be surviving. She finds out everyone at her school is descended by Greek Gods and have superpowers. How will that work out?
She is not only on a unfamiliar place, with no friends, family she does not like. But everyone else got superpowers. :S Will she survive...

My Opinion:
I absolutely adored this book. I love chick litt and I love paranormal, gods and superpowers :P So this was an amazing mix of everything I love :)
The book was easy and well written and fast read. And just when I finished the book I was like. Damn.. myself because I did not own the sequel. xD haha But soon I do :P

I choose to give this book 5 out of 6 stars
The reason it didn´t get 6 stars is that yeah.. Actually I don´t know. I just feel there could have been something more. But I don´t know what right now.
There is family drama, romance, friendship etc. Things you can really relate to. Though there aren´t that much action action. Which worked out great in this book. You just followed the main character and felt like you were her :)
So if you enjoy books who follows their life. And you like Chick litt. and gods, this is a book for you.

Questions

I was over at Book Passion for Life and they had an old meme called something about 20 questions.
Where you were suppose to pick 3 questions your self to answer. But since I am not that creative today. I will just use their questions. So you can get to know me a little bit better :)

If you want to read about them, you can check out their blogpost HERE

Q: What's the worse colour you've ever dyed your hair?
I liked all the colors I have had. Though I got a hair cut just before Christmas time, which I totally hated. It looked awesome. And I am just waiting for my hair to get long again :)
I know I will never make that mistake again.
No more bangs

Q: If you could be one cartoon character, who would you be?
Oh. There are so many. I love Disney characters.
Belle, Ariel, Esmeralda etc.

Q: If you could have any job in the world what would you do?
I would be an animal keeper. :) I love animals.

Q: Tell us one great childhood memory that you love?
Must be my Summer vacations with my cousin.
We were always together and hang out at the camping place, in the town I am from.
And we were jumping on the trampoline all day long.
Sound pretty weird. But I think of those summers every year. I miss being young :P

As you can see I stole some of their questions. For next week. You guys are welcome to ask me questions :) If you like to get to know me a little bit better :)

Curious: Sweet Venom by Tera Lynn Childs

Sweet Venom (Medusa Girls 1)
by Tera Lynn Childs

Grace just moved to San Francisco and is excited to start over at a new school. The change is full of fresh possibilities, but it’s also a tiny bit scary. It gets scarier when a minotaur walks in the door. And even more shocking when a girl who looks just like her shows up to fight the monster.

Gretchen is tired of monsters pulling her out into the wee hours, especially on a school night, but what can she do? Sending the minotaur back to his bleak home is just another notch on her combat belt. She never expected to run into this girl who could be her double, though.

Greer has her life pretty well put together, thank you very much. But that all tilts sideways when two girls who look eerily like her appear on her doorstep and claim they're triplets, supernatural descendants of some hideous creature from Greek myth, destined to spend their lives hunting monsters.

These three teenage descendants of Medusa, the once-beautiful gorgon maligned by myth, must reunite and embrace their fates in this unique paranormal world where monsters lurk in plain sight

I just read Oh my Gods, by this author. And it really made me curious on some of her other books.
Specially this one since it´s also with Greek mythology, who I am totally hooked on, right now :P So I need to read this book.
It´s being published September 6th 2011

Have you heard of it? What do you think??

Angel Burn by L.A Weatherly

Alex didn´t even glance at me. "Not in this car; they´ve seen it." His voice was flat. Obviously, he was as thrilled about going to New Mexico together as I was.

I just started this book on my Galaxy. So far okay. But my reading is a bit slow. Since I enjoy real books better :D So I only read on it sometimes.
